Akrapovic Link Pipes for the 718 GT4

Akrapovic Link Pipes for the 718 GT4

Recently, we installed the Akrapovic 718 GT4 Link Pipes that replace the restrictive and heavy factory OPF link pipes. OPFs (Otto Particulate Filter or Ottopartikelfilter in German) are sometimes referred to as GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter). In the United States, currently they are not required by law or actively monitored by the engine control unit. Therefore, swapping them for link pipes is an easy and popular way to add power, sound and reduce weight.

Akrapovic is a world-leader in titanium exhaust systems. Their link pipes for the 718 GT4 Cayman or Boxster Spyder are a high quality solution. They are constructed from lightweight titanium and feature heat-shielding technology similar to the OEM pipes to reduce heat transfer to the rear tires and brakes. The link pipes reduce weight by almost 16 pounds! From recent dyno testing, they are proven to add ~15whp. These two data points, make this modification a no-brainier.

Here are the pipes sitting side by side. As you can see the Akrapovic Link Pipes mimic some of the factory designed but eliminate the clunky and restrictive OPFs. Hey Porsche has to protect the 911 after all!Stock OPF Pipes vs Akrapovic Link Pipes (718 Cayman GT4)

Here are some additional pictures of the Akrapovic Link Pipes. Installation can be accomplished in about 2 hours. Simply remove the rear diffuser cover, rear wheels and the center mufller and everything is accessible to pull off the factory OPF pipes and slip on the Akrapovic Link Pipes. Once mounted, these look great and improve the sound of the GT4 quite considerably.
